Hi! I’m Niki, and I love to paint. I am so lucky that I am able to do this as my job.
I was always interested in art from a very young age, watching both my mum and grandmother painting. My favourite subject in school was always art, and in my spare time I was constantly looking for something to make. I was definitely a DIY child from the start.
I have taken many different classes over the years, such as pottery, sculpture, photography, but nothing sparked my interest quite like painting.
In high school I was awarded the Art Award, and after taking a year off to travel through Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji , attended Concordia University for Fine Arts. I studied both Art History and Studio Art and now have a double major in both.
I learned so much from my time at Concordia, not just in studio, but also that an education in Art is a well-rounded and thought provoking one.
My greatest lesson in art, however, I believe came when I started my An Artwork A Day project. After leaving University, like many graduates, I could not find a job in my field. I ended up working in banking and after five years, began to hate myself for not being creative anymore. I made a pact to begin painting everyday for a full year, beginning January 1, 2015. I didn’t miss a single day, and as a result, have amassed an enormous portfolio of artwork, but more importantly, developed myself as an artist.
I was hooked. I did everything to focus my energy on being able to do this full time. Thanks to the support from friends, family, and all who follow me and my artwork, I was able to do just that. I have now worked in editorial illustration, web & print, architectural renderings, wedding work, and of course, custom paintings! My prints and cards can be found in several retailers across Canada and the US.
Thanks for stopping by, and please don’t hesitate to say hi!
